Frequently Asked Questions
Countertops Questions
How much do new countertops cost in Henderson?
Fixr puts a typical national kitchen countertop job at about $1,400 to $5,250, averaging around $3,000 for 35 square feet of quartz. HomeGuide lists installed quartz at $50 to $200 per square foot and granite at $50 to $250, depending on grade. Island size, edges, cutouts and removal change the total, so we give you a written price after measuring.
What are the top five countertops?
For kitchens in the Las Vegas Valley, the five most common choices are quartz, granite, quartzite, marble and solid surface or laminate. Quartz leads for low upkeep, granite for heat and sun, quartzite for a marble look with more hardness, and marble for its look in low-traffic areas. We help you choose based on how you cook and where the sun hits.
Is quartz or granite better for a Henderson kitchen?
Both work indoors. Quartz needs no sealing and resists stains, but its resin can discolor from hot pans and long direct sunlight. Granite handles heat and UV better but needs occasional sealing. If your counter sits in strong afternoon sun or near a grill, granite or quartzite is usually the safer pick.
Will hard water damage my countertops?
Henderson's water is very hard, about 16 grains per gallon, so white mineral spots around the sink are common. They do not harm granite or quartz and wipe off with a pH-neutral cleaner. The damage usually comes from acidic cleaners such as vinegar, which etch marble and limestone. We give you care instructions for the material you choose.
How long does countertop replacement take?
Usually two visits plus fabrication time. We template after the old top is off or the cabinets are set, then the top is cut and installed on a second visit, typically in a day for a standard kitchen. Lead time depends on the slab and the season; we give you the schedule with your quote.
Do I need HOA approval for new countertops?
Usually not for indoor counters, since most Henderson association rules cover the outside of the home. Outdoor kitchens are often treated as an exterior change. Anthem's Parkside association, for example, requires an application for new changes to a home or landscaping, so check your guidelines before building.
Can you install countertops on my existing cabinets?
Usually, yes, if the cabinets are sound, level and fastened well. Stone is heavy, so we check for sagging boxes, water damage under the sink and out-of-level runs at the estimate. Minor shimming is part of a normal install; damaged cabinets should be repaired or replaced first.
Quartz Countertops Questions
Can quartz countertops take direct sunlight?
Standard indoor quartz can fade or yellow with long UV exposure, according to Angi and Caesarstone. Indoors, a shade or UV film on a sunny west window helps. Outdoors, choose granite, quartzite or a surface made for exterior use.
Can I put a hot pan on quartz?
No. Quartz is heat resistant but not heatproof, and the resin can scorch or discolor. Use a trivet for anything coming off the stove or out of the oven.
Does quartz need to be sealed?
No. Quartz is non-porous, so it does not absorb liquids and never needs sealing. Daily cleaning with mild soap and water is enough.
How much does a quartz kitchen cost in Henderson?
HomeGuide's national range for a 30 to 40 square foot kitchen is about $1,500 to $8,000 installed, with first-choice slabs costing the most. Islands, waterfall ends and backsplashes add to it. We give you a written price after measuring.
Will hard water stain quartz?
Mineral deposits sit on the surface rather than soaking in, so they wipe off with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Drying the area around the faucet keeps rings from building up.
Granite Countertops Questions
How much do granite countertops cost?
HomeGuide lists installed granite at about $50 to $250 per square foot depending on level, with an average kitchen at $2,400 to $6,000. Forbes Home puts the average job near $3,300. We give you a written price after measuring.
How often does granite need sealing?
It depends on the stone. Some light, porous granites need sealing a few times a year; dense dark stones can go years. If water darkens the stone within a few minutes, it is time to reseal.
Is granite good for a sunny kitchen?
Yes. Granite has no resin, so sunlight does not fade or yellow it. That makes it a good fit for counters under west windows and near patio doors.
Can I put hot pans on granite?
Granite handles heat far better than quartz. Still, very hot cookware can stress the stone near seams or thin edges, so a trivet is a sensible habit.
What cleaner should I use on granite with hard water?
A pH-neutral stone cleaner or mild dish soap and water. Avoid vinegar and abrasive powders, which wear down the sealer and dull the polish.
Kitchen Countertop Replacement Questions
Can new countertops go on old cabinets?
Yes, if the cabinets are level, dry and well fastened. We check the sink base for past water damage and the runs for dips before quoting stone.
How long will my kitchen be out of service?
Usually a few days to a couple of weeks between tear-out and install, depending on the slab and fabrication schedule. Some homeowners keep the old top in place until templating; we discuss the option that works for your kitchen.
Do I need a new sink when I replace countertops?
Often. Old drop-in sinks rarely suit a new stone top, and undermount sinks have to be chosen before the top is cut. We list sink options on your quote.
What does it cost to replace kitchen countertops?
Fixr's national range for a typical job is about $1,400 to $5,250, with removal, plumbing and backsplash on top. Material choice is the biggest factor. We give you a written, itemized price.
Does replacing countertops require a permit in Henderson?
Swapping countertops by itself is generally finish work, but moving plumbing, gas or electrical can require permits. Check with the City of Henderson Building and Fire Safety department if your project goes beyond a straight replacement.
Bathroom Vanity Tops Questions
How much does a new bathroom vanity top cost?
HomeGuide lists a 20-by-36-inch top at about $250 to $1,000 in quartz and $400 to $750 in granite, installed. Double vanities cost more. We give you a written price after measuring.
Is marble a good choice for a bathroom vanity?
It looks beautiful but etches from acidic products like some cleaners, toothpaste spills and lime removers. If you choose marble, seal it and clean with pH-neutral products.
Can you replace just the top and keep my vanity cabinet?
Yes, if the cabinet is sound and level. We check for water damage under the sink before templating.
Can I use a granite or quartz remnant for my vanity?
Often, yes. Small vanities can usually be cut from a remnant, which can cost less than buying from a full slab. Selection depends on what is available when you order.
Do I need to pick my sink and faucet first?
Yes. The sink cutout and faucet holes are cut to fit specific models, so we need them chosen before templating.
Quartzite & Marble Countertops Questions
What is the difference between quartzite and quartz?
Quartzite is a natural stone cut from the earth. Quartz countertops are engineered from ground quartz and resin. Quartzite handles UV and heat better; quartz needs no sealing.
Does quartzite etch like marble?
True quartzite generally does not etch from kitchen acids. Some stones sold as soft quartzite contain calcite and can etch, so we test a sample first.
Will hard water ruin marble countertops?
Mineral spots themselves are mostly a cleaning nuisance. The damage comes from acidic cleaners used to remove them, which etch marble. Stick to pH-neutral stone cleaners.
How often do quartzite and marble need sealing?
HomeGuide recommends annual sealing for both. We check your slab's absorbency and tell you what it needs.
Can marble go in a kitchen?
Yes, if you are comfortable with etch marks and some patina over time. Many owners choose honed marble for a kitchen because it hides etching better than polished.
Outdoor Kitchen Countertops Questions
Can I use quartz for an outdoor kitchen in Henderson?
Not standard indoor quartz. Caesarstone says indoor quartz fades and weakens under UV. Exterior-rated lines, such as Caesarstone's Outdoor collection, are made for sun.
What is the best countertop for an outdoor kitchen in full sun?
Granite in a light or mid-tone color is our usual recommendation. Quartzite and ultra-compact surfaces like Dekton are also UV stable.
Do dark countertops get too hot outside?
Yes. Dark stone absorbs much more sun and can be too hot to touch in summer. Lighter stone and a patio cover help a lot.
Do I need HOA approval for an outdoor kitchen?
Often. Many Henderson associations review exterior changes; Anthem's Parkside association requires an application for new changes. Check your guidelines before ordering.
Do you build the grill island too?
We supply and install the countertop. The island structure, gas and electrical should be completed by the appropriate trades before we template.
