Stone Countertops for a Resort-Style Community

Countertops in Lake Las Vegas often lean toward natural stone. The homes around the 320-acre lake were designed in Mediterranean, Tuscan and Italianate styles, and many owners want quartzite, marble or exotic granite rather than a manufactured surface. Lake Las Vegas sits on the east side of the Las Vegas Valley and was annexed into the City of Henderson, so for permits and city services it is Henderson, even though it often feels like a separate resort.

Matching the architecture

The sub-communities around the lake were built with distinct looks. A buyer's guide to the area lists Mediterranean styling in SouthShore, The Falls, Bella di Lago and MonteLago Village, Tuscan styling in Vita Bella and Bellano, Italianate in Tremezzo, and contemporary design at The Cliffs. A kitchen in a Tuscan home often suits warm-toned granite or a honed quartzite. A contemporary home at The Cliffs may call for a crisp white quartz with a mitered waterfall edge. We bring samples that fit the house you have.

Quartzite and marble: know the difference

This is the comparison that matters most in a natural-stone kitchen.

  • Quartzite is a hard metamorphic stone that can look like marble. It resists scratching and heat well and needs sealing.
  • Marble is softer and calcite-based. Acids from lemon, wine, tomato and many hard-water cleaners will etch it, leaving dull marks.
  • Henderson water tests at 16 grains per gallon. The mineral rings it leaves near faucets tempt people to use vinegar, which is exactly what etches marble.

If you choose marble for a kitchen, we will explain the care routine plainly. Many owners use it on a bar or in a powder room and choose quartzite for the main prep area.

Lakeside and hillside outdoor kitchens

Outdoor living is a big part of this community, with patios, rooftop decks and terraces facing the water or the valley. In a city where the July mean high reaches 101 degrees, an outdoor counter takes intense sun most of the year. We recommend granite or a dense quartzite for uncovered counters, and we generally avoid standard quartz in direct sun because Caesarstone says indoor quartz can fade and weaken under UV. Darker stone in full sun can get too hot to rest a hand on, so lighter colors work better on west-facing terraces.

The master association and your project

Every home in Lake Las Vegas pays into the Lake Las Vegas Master Association, which includes an architectural review committee, and each sub-community has its own association too. Interior countertops do not usually require review, but outdoor kitchens, rooftop deck features and anything visible from the lake or street likely will. We can supply a material sheet and drawing for your submission. Gated sub-communities also need visitor access arranged ahead of time.

Condos in MonteLago Village

The same buyer's guide lists condominiums in MonteLago Village and Tremezzo. Condo countertop work means coordinating with building management on delivery, elevator use and hours. We plan that before the install day.

Getting the slab right

For natural stone, we encourage clients to view and approve the actual slab before it is cut. Veining varies from slab to slab, and on a large island the layout of that veining is what you will notice every day.

Lake Las Vegas Background

  • A lake behind an earthen dam. The reservoir covers 320 acres with about 10 miles of shoreline, held by an earthen dam 192 feet tall and 4,800 feet long. The Las Vegas Wash runs beneath it through two 84-inch bypass pipes to Lake Mead.
  • Annexed into Henderson. The land around the lake was annexed into the City of Henderson, and the developed area covers 3,592 acres. Lake Las Vegas sits inside Henderson city limits.
  • Bankruptcy and recovery. Lake at Las Vegas Joint Venture filed for Chapter 11 on July 17, 2008 and emerged in July 2010. The former Ritz-Carlton reopened as the Ravella in 2011 and became the Hilton Lake Las Vegas in 2013.
  • Master association with design review. Every residence pays the Lake Las Vegas Master Association, which covers the lake, master trails and roads, security patrol and an architectural review committee. A local buyer's guide, citing city planning documents, puts build-out at about 4,500 to 5,000 homes, with roughly 3,200 built.
  • Very hard water. Henderson's 2024 water quality report rates the city's Colorado River supply at 16 grains per gallon, which it calls very hard and says can leave chalky buildup on fixtures.

Lake Las Vegas Questions

Is Lake Las Vegas in Henderson or unincorporated Clark County?

Lake Las Vegas was annexed into the City of Henderson. Permits for gas, plumbing or electrical work go through Henderson's Building and Fire Safety department.

Can I use marble in my Lake Las Vegas kitchen?

You can, as long as you accept etching. Henderson's very hard water leads people to use acidic cleaners, which dull marble. Quartzite gives a similar look with much better resistance.

Does the master association need to approve an outdoor kitchen?

Likely, if it is visible from outside the home. The master association has an architectural review committee, and sub-associations may have their own rules. We can provide drawings and specs for the application.

What countertop holds up best on a lakeside terrace?

A light-colored granite or dense quartzite. Both handle UV and heat better than standard indoor quartz, which can fade in direct outdoor sun.
