New Surfaces for City of Las Vegas Kitchens

Countertops in Las Vegas cover a wider range of houses than most people expect. The city was founded in 1905 with an auction of 110 acres next to the Union Pacific tracks, incorporated in 1911, and now holds roughly 680,000 residents according to the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate. That means we may template a 1930s kitchen near downtown one morning and a 2000s tract kitchen on the west side the same afternoon. Each one has its own walls, cabinet heights and plumbing quirks, and the stone choice should follow the house, not a catalog.

Why quartz leads most of our city jobs

Quartz is often the first surface Las Vegas homeowners ask about, and there is a practical reason. Valley tap water is very hard, so a stone that does not need sealing and resists mineral staining saves real effort. Quartz is engineered from crushed stone and resin, comes in consistent slabs, and handles daily cleaning without the etching that can show up on marble. Granite is still a strong choice, especially for owners who want natural movement in the pattern, but quartz is where most kitchen conversations start.

What we install inside city limits

  • Quartz countertops for kitchens, islands and full-height backsplashes
  • Granite countertops for owners who want a natural, one-of-a-kind slab
  • Kitchen countertop replacement, including tear-out and haul-away of the old tops
  • Bathroom vanity tops with undermount sink cutouts
  • Quartzite and marble for owners who accept the extra care natural stone needs
  • Outdoor kitchen countertops chosen to stand up to direct desert sun

Older homes, historic streets

Some city neighborhoods are protected. The John S. Park Historic District, roughly between Charleston Boulevard, Las Vegas Boulevard, Franklin Avenue and South Ninth Street, was placed on the city's historic register in March 2003 and on the National Register that May. Interior countertop work generally does not touch the exterior features those designations focus on, but older homes bring other surprises: walls that are not square, cabinets built on site, and plumbing that has been altered over decades. We measure carefully and scribe the stone to the walls rather than leaving wide caulk gaps.

Heat, sun and the backyard

Las Vegas averages about 78 days a year at or above 100 degrees and roughly 310 sunny days. For an outdoor kitchen, that sun matters more than anything else. Many quartz products are made for indoor use and their makers caution against long UV exposure, so for patios we usually point owners toward granite or another stone rated for exterior use, and we talk through lighter colors that stay cooler to the touch in July.

The city versus the county

A Las Vegas mailing address does not always mean the City of Las Vegas. Many nearby neighborhoods with the same address are in unincorporated Clark County, which has its own building department. If a project goes beyond swapping tops and involves moving a sink, adding a gas line or rerouting plumbing, the permit comes from whichever government actually covers your parcel. Your property tax bill shows which one that is, and we can help you sort out the plumbing scope before work starts.

How a city project runs

First we visit, look at the cabinets and talk about materials. After you choose a slab, we template the space, fabricate the pieces with sink and cooktop cutouts, and return to install. A typical kitchen replacement takes a few days from template to finished install once the slab is ready. Typical installed prices vary widely with material, edge profile and square footage, so we give you a written quote rather than a rough number over the phone. Call (725) 433-0381 or

Las Vegas Facts That Shape a Countertop Job

  • A city that dates to 1905. Las Vegas began with a 1905 auction of 110 acres beside the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, land that became downtown, and incorporated as a city in 1911. Homes near the core can be many decades older than the valley's master-planned suburbs.
  • Owners and values. About 56.6% of homes in the city are owner-occupied, with a median owner-occupied value of $427,900 and 86.1% of residents in the same house as a year earlier (Census ACS, 2020 to 2024).
  • John S. Park Historic District. Bounded roughly by Charleston Boulevard, Las Vegas Boulevard, Franklin Avenue and South Ninth Street, the district joined the city historic register on March 19, 2003 and the National Register of Historic Places on May 16, 2003.
  • Very hard tap water. The Southern Nevada Water Authority puts valley water hardness at about 280 parts per million, or 16 grains per gallon, which it categorizes as very hard. Mineral residue forms only when water is allowed to evaporate, so it shows up around sinks and faucets.
  • Relentless sun. Las Vegas averages about 78 days a year at 100 degrees or higher, about 310 sunny days, and only about 4.2 inches of rain, conditions that are hard on outdoor counters and sealants.

Las Vegas Questions

Do I need a permit to replace countertops in the City of Las Vegas?

A straight swap of tops on existing cabinets is usually simple, but plumbing, gas or electrical changes are a different matter. If the project moves a sink, adds a prep sink or changes a gas line, check with the City of Las Vegas building permit office, or let us scope the work so you know what to ask before you call.

My house is in the John S. Park district. Does that limit what I can install?

Historic designation mainly concerns the outside of the house. Interior countertops are rarely affected, but if your project also changes windows or exterior walls, ask the city about the review process first. Inside, we simply work around older walls and site-built cabinets with careful templating.

How do I keep hard-water spots off a new countertop?

Wipe the area around the faucet dry after use, since spots form as water evaporates. Quartz shrugs off most of this with mild soap. Polished granite and marble benefit from a pH-neutral stone cleaner, and natural stone should be resealed on the schedule the fabricator recommends.

Do you work throughout the City of Las Vegas?

Yes. We serve the whole City of Las Vegas, from downtown out to the western edge of the valley. Distance does not change how we measure or install, and estimates are free.
