Replacing the Builder Package

Countertops in Mountain's Edge tell you a lot about when a house was built. Focus Property Group began construction in February 2004, and starting in 2007 Mountain's Edge was the top-selling master-planned community in the United States for two straight years. Homes built during that rush were often delivered with a standard builder package: entry-level granite with a thin edge, tile counters or laminate in secondary baths. Those surfaces are now roughly 15 to 20 years old, and replacing them is a common upgrade here.

Signs your original tops are ready to go

  • Chips along the edge of thin builder granite, especially near the dishwasher
  • Grout lines on tile counters that stay stained no matter how you clean
  • Laminate peeling at the seams near the sink
  • A dated speckled granite pattern that does not match newer cabinets or floors
  • A sealer that has worn off, leaving dark rings around the faucet

Why quartz is the usual upgrade

Many Mountain's Edge owners want something that looks cleaner than their original granite and takes less work. Quartz fits that well: it is non-porous, does not need sealing and comes in solid whites, soft grays and marble looks that update a kitchen right away. If you love natural stone, a modern granite or quartzite with less busy movement is another route. Because the cabinets in many of these homes are still sound, we can usually replace the tops without a full remodel.

Hard water and the kitchen sink

The area's water is very hard, about 280 parts per million or 16 grains per gallon according to the Southern Nevada Water Authority. Owners of original granite often notice cloudy rings around the faucet where mineral water dries on stone with worn sealer. Quartz resists this, and a dry towel near the sink keeps any surface looking better.

Bathrooms and secondary spaces

The builder package often included cultured marble or basic granite in hall baths. Swapping those for quartz vanity tops with undermount sinks is a fast, affordable change that pairs well with a kitchen project. We can quote the kitchen, primary bath and secondary baths together or one at a time.

Enterprise and Clark County

Mountain's Edge is a planned community in the unincorporated town of Enterprise, which was formed on December 17, 1996. Enterprise more than doubled from 108,481 residents in 2010 to 221,831 in 2020, and Mountain's Edge was a big part of that. Because it is unincorporated, building matters go to Clark County. Most homes also sit within neighborhood associations; interior countertop work rarely needs approval, but outdoor kitchens may.

Mountain's Edge Facts

  • A fast-built master plan. Focus Property Group began building Mountain's Edge in February 2004. Plans called for 14,500 homes across more than 22 neighborhoods, and about 12,500 homes were built as of the end of 2025.
  • Top-selling community. Beginning in 2007, Mountain's Edge was the top-selling master-planned community in the United States for two consecutive years, which is why so many homes share similar builder finishes.
  • Part of fast-growing Enterprise. Enterprise, the unincorporated town that includes Mountain's Edge, was formed December 17, 1996 and grew to 221,831 residents in 2020. Census estimates show a 63.7% owner-occupancy rate and a $475,500 median home value.

Mountain's Edge Questions

Can you replace builder-grade granite without replacing my cabinets?

In most Mountain's Edge homes, yes. We remove the old granite carefully, check that the cabinets are level, then template and install the new tops. If a cabinet has water damage under the sink, we will point it out before going ahead.

Will my sink and faucet need to change?

Not always. Many owners take the chance to switch to an undermount sink and a new faucet, but an existing sink can often be reused if it is in good condition and suits the new top.

How do I keep hard water spots off my new countertops?

Wipe the area around the faucet dry after use and clean with mild soap. Quartz resists mineral spotting well. If you choose granite or quartzite, keep the sealer up to date so water cannot soak in.

Can you do the bathroom vanities at the same time?

Yes. Many owners bundle kitchen and vanity tops into one project so the materials match and installation happens in one visit or two close together.
